Foreign Mission News
From Nicaragua, Ken and Krista Dowell:
During a Sunday School Class last month, Krista prayed with a new visitor, Maria, who had been in a horrible accident and was in a wheelchair. The woman had abandoned her children of whom one was a student in Kristas literacy program. Maria believes God spared her life & asked for special prayer. She prayed for forgiveness from God and received His gift of Salvation! She is also trying to make amends with her children and now has a church family to help her heal her life. Krista and Ken ask for prayer for an 11 year old girl named Yorlene, who used to come to AWANA. She is forbidden to attend and is made to work very hard manual labor at home. Her mother and she are both physically abused by her father. The father actually threw Yorlene over a mountain-side, where she sustained no injuries, as she felt someone catch her and place her gently on the ground. Yes, miracles do happen as Yorlene believes she was caught by an angel. Please keep Yorlene and her family in your prayers. Ken and Krista ask for constant prayer as the local robbers still target missionaries as an easy prey. Thanks to the local men in their church family, they usually have escorts when they need to go to town for supplies.
From The Hillhouses in Burkina Faso:
Burkina Faso is listed among the top 5 poorest countries in the world. That is why the Hillhouses and their church family, with the help of Manna Worldwide, started the Manna Feeding Center. Since February 9th, they have been feeding from 30 to 100 children everyday around noon along with the telling of a Bible lesson. The children can then return to school with full bellies and full of Gods Word. Each week, they are required to attend at least one church service, with their parents or an adult family member, to gain Manna tickets for the week. Please pray with them that God will use this ministry to reach the children of Burkina Faso and their families.
From Ed, & Annita Hoagland in Mexico City, Mexico:
With Mexico being hit with the deadly Swine Flu virus, it is almost like a ghost town. Ed says that schools & restaurants have been closed, soccer games cancelled, and very few people even go to the parks. Fear and panic are everywhere. Most people wear surgical masks to try and protect themselves. Then they had a 5.7 earthquake and the drug wars have gotten worse. The Mexican people have so many reasons to seek God in all of their troubles at this time, that they are asking that we pray the Holy Spirit will direct them as they witness boldly to those in need. One of their biggest outreach programs is their Summer Evangelistic Youth Camps where they are expecting to take 5,544 unsaved young people and present them with the gospel. They have raised nearly $10,000 for this project but are still about $18,000 short. If you could find it in your hearts to help with this cause, please donate through your local church and mark it for the Hoaglands. They are pleased to announce that they have 147 leaders volunteer so far and are in their training session.
Ed and Annita also ask for your continued prayers that God will keep them and their family healthy and free from the virus. They would also like to thank our church family for the support that we send them each month. They thank God everyday for us.
From The Nolands in the NW Territory:
The Lord has been blessing our church. We have had several first time visitors and some others that have begun attending on a regular basis. Our childrens Sunday school has been busting at the seams the last few weeks. We recently started a teen Sunday school as well. Every week I give them a verse to memorize for the next week. It is exciting to hear them quote scripture and to see their excitement and desire to learn. We are praying for a full van to take to teen camp in Fairbanks, Alaska. The dates for camp this year are July 13 17. Please pray for the long days of travel and the Lord to do great things in the hearts of these teens.
I wrote in our last prayer letter about one of our teens wanting to be baptized. After she talked with me she went home and told her family. Her dad, who has been ok with her coming to church, refused to allow her to be baptized. She was disappointed, but we told her not to give up and we would all pray. A few weeks later she came to us and said he had changed his mind and would even attend the service. I announced this in our next church service and another young lady who has been attending said she wanted to be baptized also. Both of these young ladies have been growing in their faith. Please pray for them and the baptism service scheduled for the first
Week of July. We have received notice from Canada Immigration to take the next step towards our permanent visa. We now have our medical exams to complete. There are many details involved in this,
Including an 800mile trip to Whitehorse, Yukon to have the exams done. There are also some financial documents to gather and mail but that should be all we need to submit the last phase of our application. After all of this is completed we should receive a final decision within 90 days. Please continue to pray fervently for this and all of the upcoming opportunities for lives to be changed and souls to be won. We are grateful to God for being able to serve Him in this place and we appreciate your prayers for the ministry here.
Local Missions News:
From Granny Pam at Grannys House:
The workers at Grannys house have been dreaming of an uncluttered, organized, updated with computers and printers, stocked bookshelves, and whatever else they might need so the kids would have a comfortable area to do their homework and school projects. Well, Thank the Lord it happened last month, through monetary donations and volunteered work, their dreams came true and the kids just love their new study area! They want to thank all those who help in any way to support them. With school out, the kids who participate in the Spirit Riders horseback riding program at Crane Farm are back on their horses and have lots of fun. Lets all pray for their safety and continued blessings.
From Stained Glass Theatre in Jefferson City:
Stained Glass Theatre A new play begins, “Living with Style” September 09-September 25. Many expect senior citizen Sam Style to relax and take it easy. He was known on the job, in his community, and especially by his family as a true Christian, a real man of God. It's now time to enjoy some peace and quiet. Or is it? Alone since the death of his beloved wife, health concerns now forces Sam to sell his home and make other living arrangements. His children want him to come live with them, but Sam feels God directing him to a retirement home. With a light that witnesses to those around him, including residents and staff, Sam reminds us that no one is ever beyond being useful to God.
Show starts at 7:30pm Thursdays & Fridays and 2PM on Saturdays.

From Larry McDaniel, Coyote Hill:
A group of veterinary school interns from MU came out recently to share their "green thumbs" with us! They provided and planted flowers and vegetable plants in different beds at two of the homes, and then stuck around to play kickball with some of the children. It was lots of fun for everyone.
If your group would like to tackle (or clean, or build) a project, call development rep Kari Salmon at 573.823.7941. She's especially looking for a few good house cleaners!
